X-box live-what do I need?

I'm thinking of getting DH X-box live as a suprise, but am not sure what I need? We have an x-box (though not Kinnect). The X-box isn't positioned next to the router, does that mean we'd need somthing like this?

www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/9253700.htm?CMPID=GS001&_%24ja%3Dkw%3A{keyword}|cgn%3Apla||9253700|tsid%3A11677|cn%3Apla||9253700|mt%3A{MatchType}|crid%3A14542145259#pdpProductReviews

Or do I just buy X-box live and plug and play...!?

That one says it has got inbuitl wireless, so if thats the case then you will just need to buy the subscription iirc

You will need to check to see if it has inbuilt wireless. If it has, you will need to check the signal and if it is strong enough then all you have to do is buy the xbox live subscription. These come in various prices for 1 month, 3 months. a year etc. I assume its the gold subscription you want (this is the one to let you play most of the games). If not inbuilt wireless, then you will need to either get the xbox wireless dongle or set up a wired connection from the xbox to the router. The wireless dongle is handy if in the same room as the router but if in another room it might still not produce a strong enough signal. (We paid £60 for one for ds1 only to find that the signal wasn't good enough grrr!) Otherwise you can connect the xbox to the router direct with an ethernet cable or if thats not possible through a homeplugs setup (we had to go out and buy this after finding out the dongle was shit). You should look online as well for deals as you will probably get a gold subscription cheaper online than direct from microsoft/xbox.

Don't buy him online access without asking if he wants it, if he spends his time playing Skyrim and the like he will no give a crap about it.

niceguy2 · 12/02/2012 17:54

What games does he play? If he's not got Live already it may well be because he's not fussed.

What I did for my DS was sign him up through the console and got the first month for £1.99.

The xbox you have is already wireless so you just need to go into the settings and set it up.
