I want to play this archived radio programme on my iPad or iPhone, but safari can't download the file...

here. Do I need a special app or something?

I'd be really grateful if somebody could talk me through it- I'd love to be able to listen to the programmes but I can't work out how.

The radio broadcast is in what's known as a realaudio format. iphone's/ipod's don't play those. In fact, not much does anymore. Back in 2003 (when the show was broadcast it was more popular).

You can try to use software such as http://www.rm-mp3.org/ to convert the file (if it's even still there) into a format the ipad will recognise.

To be fair it may be easier to download RealPlayer and just listen to it on your PC
