Just upgraded iPhone, can someone talk me through syncing it with my old phone so I don't lose all my stuff?

Please - have opened iTunes on my laptop, plugged in old phone to sync it - the guy in the shop said I had to make sure I ticked everything to unsure it was all backed up to iTunes, but it has just set off syncing and I have no idea where I can check it has done everything it needs to...can anyone help?

If you've synched your old phone, plug in your new phone and restore from back up of your old phone. Then you should have two phones with the same things on them and you can compare notes.

Oh, have I done it wrong then? I decided to call it a new device rather than restore from back up....it seems to be taking forever anyway - still syncing contacts...

Not necessarily. If your old phone was synched then your contacts should be in your contacts app. What you might not get is your texts/calendar etc.

Ok so should I do it again, or will it now be confused about what device it's on?

It shouldn't be syncing this long as it's being set up as a new device. Have you already copied stuff over onto it or just the contacts?

It shouldn't be confused as they'll have two different names e.g. Old iPhone and Gwen's new iPhone and therefore two different backups...

I just plugged it in, told it to sync to a new device and off it went...and it's still going...
