Viewing pictures on icloud? Or just creating albums in myphotos on my iphone!

I've just downloaded icloud for my iphone and ipad and don't have a clue what I'm doing! It seems to have successfully linked my contacts, but has wiped all of the photos I'd put on the ipad! Can I view my photos via icloud and decide which ones I want on the ipad-I've never been very good at doing this manually, even with the iphone and have only ever had one folder on 'My photos' called photo stream (I think)-whereas other people have lots of folders called-Family/Spain holiday/Christmas etc in a list. How do I do this!

Photostream is a way of sharing your new photos across your iOS devices and Macs (not sure if it's compatible with windows pcs or not). It's not a permanent thing, more like a news feed in Facebook but where things disappear after a certain time.

So think of it as being seperate to albums, which are pretty much permanent.

You can sync albums from your computer using iTunes.

Or you can make new ones on your iOS device (certainly on an iPad, it's probably the same on an iPhone). Go to Photos on your iPad, then click albums and edit. You can make a new album and then add photos to it immediately or later on by going into the album and clicking the little button at the top right.
