Geeky stuff

Can someone tell me - slowly, and step by step, how to get my signature on a document I have to email.

I have a scanner (that I've never used!) and a PC. I need to sign a document and email it. I presume I need to scan my signature, but then how do I get it onto a) PC and b) document.

I'm sure it's simple, but I seem to have lost the ability to think logically.

Can you print the document? If not you can scan your signature, save document as jpeg and copy and paste in paint.

Your scanner probably came with a disk of software - did you install it? Or maybe it came with the PC in which it may have been installed for you.

I would look in Start - All Programs and look for some scanner software. Start that up and follow the instructions! Do a signature on any old bit of paper and scan it - the scanner software will probably give you the option to trim it to a rectangle round the signature, and then to save it onto your PC.

Then open the document, put the curser at the bottom where you want the signature, and find an option like "Insert Picture"

HTH!

Yes, I can print the document. But how do I get my signature on it to email? (I am aware how thick I sound - I just can't work it out. )

Sign a bit of paper. Scan it in and save it as a .jpeg - the scanner should automatically open a dialogue box on the PC it's connected to (I'm assuming they do have a connection) which will allow you to do this.

Open the .jpeg that is now happily saved on your PC - it will probably need cropping so it's your signature + a bit of white space rather than loads of white space. When you're happy, Ctrl V.

You have the document on your PC, yes? You can edit it and tweak it etc? If so, click on the signature box and Ctrl C.
Bob will be your Uncle.

Thank you all. I am off to try this now. I may be some time...

Print the document, sign it the normal way, scan the printed document and attach that to your email

Tabulahrasa wins! I knew there was an easy way - I just couldn't work out what it was.

Anyway, I now have my scanned signature as a jpeg for future use. Took me a while, but I got there (and, more importantly, didn't need to ask DH or the DC how to do it).
