New PC and need good anti-virus and parental controls recommendatiosnas this will be used a lot by the children

Can anyone tell me what anti-virus and parental controls they use on their computer/s? We just replaced our pc and as it sits in a communal space it will be used a lot by our primary school aged children. Children don't yet have access to any other internet connected device in the hosue but may do in the future as they get older.

Personally for anti-virus I would recommend Microsoft Security Essentials. It's free and unintrusive. Others like AVG and Avira. All are free and pretty good.

For parental controls, Microsoft also give away MS Family Safety. I've used it but I didn't like it as much as K9 Internet Protection. I found K9 easier to set up and the categories easier to manage. Have a look at both and see which you prefer.
