Mine seems to freeze on the back up stage about a cm into the bar and then refuses to budge.

I've backed it up and synched it on the previous 4.3(or whatever) hoping that would help but no, it stops.

Geordieminx · 25/10/2011 09:00

I have managed to do it, no idea how. More luck than anything else, although I did loose all apps Hmm

GalloweesG · 25/10/2011 09:01

How long did it take GeordieMinx?

I managed it fine on my iphone 3GS and on my dh's ipad 2. I had a nightmare on my ipad 1, the only way I could get it through was a restore, and as part of the restore process it uploaded IOS 5 automatically.

I had the same problem, just hanging on the backup, I tried over 8 times, with shutting down both the computer and ipad etc, but in the end only the restore option worked.

GalloweesG · 25/10/2011 09:04

I have the iPad 1 so maybe a restore is the way forward, will try that today.

Geordieminx - on the ipad 2 I though I had lost the apps, when I re-synced it again, all the apps were restored, have you tried that?

GalloweesG - on the ipad 2 it took about 1.5 hours - on my ipad 1 I was at it for over 5 hours.. the restore took 2 hours.

GalloweesG · 25/10/2011 09:06

Have you noticed any slowing in performance since the update?

Only thing that really annoyed my kids is they lost a lot of the smurfs game, as it only restores to your last back up. If you don't frequently sync you will lose progress on games etc when you do a restore.

I was just pleased at the end of the day I managed to get it to work!

awayfromhome · 25/10/2011 09:09

No it has been fine.. all games and apps working well as do the new functions.

Messed with my diary on my iphone though - totally changing all appointments etc, quite a pain to re-do all.

That's the Cloud isn't it, I've heard of a few issues with contacts and calendar once the Cloud is enabled.

My iPad 2 had to do a factory reset, and restore from iTunes but after that was fine. A little nerve racking, all took 1 1/2 hours. My iCloud back up was set to take 12 hours, had to turn off photos, which reduced it to 12 minutes. ( carry on using Dropbox to transfer photos between computer phone and iPad smiley)

GalloweesG · 25/10/2011 12:25

Oh I still havnt got to grips with Drop Box, i must watch a tutorial. or something Confused

I waited until after the first rush, so I didn't update until the Monday after it came out - I did my ipad1 first, connected at about 5.45 pm, backed up first and then clicked update - it took about 15 minutes to download and about 1.5 hours to install and restore completely - I just left it connected till it finished.

When I tried with the iPhone at about 9pm the same evening it straight away told me it would take 3 hours to download - that dropped to 2 hours fairly soon, but the whole process took over three and a half hours as opposed to less than two earlier in the evening - and my iPhone didn't have anything like the same amount of stuff on it - no videos, only about a tenth of the photos and half the apps.

I think with the iPad I was just lucky to hit a quiet period, but there was appoint in the process whe I wasn't sure whether it had finished and I nearly disconnected it, but then it carried on with the restore - if I gphad disconnected at that point, I think I would have had ios5 but no apps or content.

iPad was easy, it was the phone that took 8 hours and a couple of disasters along the way.

chocoroo · 26/10/2011 22:12

I updated my 3GS and iPad2 with no problems (except the disappearing Apps on the iPad) but I do seem to be having a problem now on both devices with web pages loading old pages.

For example, I might go to the Guardian web page and it'll show me the news from last week, or Active threads on MN will show me yesterday's. Anyone else had this? Must be something to do with the cache I guess?

GalloweesG · 27/10/2011 08:45

Well I've managed to get my iPad 1 updated and I'm actually glad my apps have gone, I shall just reinstall what I need when I want and have tidy screens. I can't update my phone because it's a 3G from the Ark. So I'm holding out for a 4s as I have a birthday soonish.

I took AwayFromHomes advice and did a restore - that did the trick I think.

Successfully upgraded my iPad but it's lost a few audiobooks on the way and I can't find them anywhere

malovitt · 27/10/2011 09:05

Mine took ages to install, I left it plugged in and went to bed.
It kept telling me that I didn't have enough memory at one point -
Audio, Video, Apps, Books were what I expected, then a massive chunk of "Other" appeared and I couldn't work out what it was.
When I got up, it had sorted itself out.

Still don't know what 'Other' is though.
Anyone?

VivaLeBeaver · 29/10/2011 12:13

I haven't tried it yet. How do I back my ipad up before attempting it. DD will be gutted if she loses progress on her Harry Potter game.

ASuitableGirl · 29/10/2011 12:19

I need to update my iPod touch I think. Didn't upgrade to OS4 so who knows how long it will take.....
