Windows help and support is being anything but...

The windows help and support box keeps appearing on my monitor. I can close it but as soon as I open a doc it wants to help me with word. As soon as I attempt to open a webpage, up it comes again, topic not found. I wasn't looking for a topic! Also when I first switch the computer on it tells me it wasn't shut down properly (it was!) and gives me options I don't understand.

If anyone's got any bright ideas (have tried system restore) I'd be more than grateful.

Disclaimer - I am old and technophobic, so much so that the last problem I posted about someone thought it was an April Fool Blush

Have you someone living nearby who can help (ie avoid a PC shop so it costs you 'a favour' or nothing) ?

It sounds as if you have some malware (nasty software) causing this, and I'd recommend using an anti-virus such as *> AVG Free

Other suggestions found by Googling "windows help support keeps popping up":

  1. Check the F1 key isn't stuck
  2. Run anti-spyware tools (e.g. MalwareBytes and SpyBot Search and destroy)
  3. You can disable Help & Support in Control panel - Administrative tools - Services.

It was the F1 key. Many thanks.
