Incoming email has taken an hour so far -do I need to be worried?

Logged on an hour ago -did the usual checking emails and it said "Receiving 1 of 2 emails".

That was an hour ago and the progress bar is only a third of the way across.

Should I be worried?

Is this some sort of scary virus? Will it be sending all sorts of dodgy stuff out to everyone in my address book? Or is it just some numpty who is sending me a load of massive photos?

I did try and stop it (there wasn't a Cancel button just Hide, Stop or Details) but Stop just meant it said Finishing Current Message.

Yes it sorted itself out in the end. I did the classic switch it off and back on again (the whole laptop as I couldn't shake off the download any other way as even when I closed Windows Mail and reopened it , it was still there).

When I switched it back on a couple of standard emails came through really quickly -nothing big or untoward at all.

I'm baffled.

Another time, if you can just break the network connection (either disabling wireless and then waiting a few minutes, or removing network cable if you have one) it is generally better for the machine.

Turning the power off is a 'last resort' (yes, I know that's what you felt :) ) but sometimes it can lead to a problem on the disk drive which makes booting into Windows go wrong.

Just felt you might find it handy to consider disabling the network instead, as so many things use the internet these days and should 'time out' and stop once the software considers the loss of internet access a 'critical error'.

Regarding the wireless on a laptop, some have a physical switch while others use function key combination to do it, or have some 'wi-fi' application sitting in the system tray by the clock.
