"how do i find people"

Probably the best thing to do is to find out if they have an official web site and see if that has a twitter links.

You can just search for them in Twitter, but then you get the question of knowing for sure who they are, more on that in a bit...

"how do i follow them"

Either bookmark their twitter page or set up a twitter account and click the "follow" link you get when viewing someone else. Tweets from them will then appear on your twitter page.

"an how do i know they are who they say thy are"

Twitter does have a way that it marks famous accounts as being "verified".

There's more information on that here:
support.twitter.com/groups/31-twitter-basics/topics/111-features/articles/119135-about-verified-accounts

Just because someone isn't verified by twitter doesn't mean they're not who they claim to be though. But if something is tagged as verified then there's a pretty good chance that they are who they say they are, for more famous people the likelihood is almost certain that they're real.

  1. Go to Twitter
  2. Enter "phillip schofield" into the grey search box t the top of the page and enter
  3. When I do it on the right hand side of the page there's a section "People results for phillip schofield" and The Schofe appears right at the top.

Or at the top of the list of search results click on "people" and The Schofe appears right at the top.

This presumes that you're using the "new look" Twitter, so if a link appears at the top of the page telling you to use the new look click on it.

BadgersPaws · 21/03/2011 13:05

Oh and it's worth nothing that the Schofe has the little blue tick next to his name. That means that he's been verified (see what I said above) so it's pretty sure that the Twitter account genuinely is him.

mosschops30 · 21/03/2011 13:23

Ok i can find a scofe now, thanks i click on the people bit.
Although i cant see where anything verifies who they say they are. I cant see a blue tick.

Im using twitter for ipad
Sorryfor being bit dull Smile

"Although i cant see where anything verifies who they say they are. I cant see a blue tick.

So you're using the actual Twitter App and not going there through Safari (the web browser)?

On the iPhone version when I look at a twitter profile page there's a little tiny blue tick in a cog/circle in the top right of the page.

In a web page if you go to twitter.com/#!/Schofe you should see a bigger tick next to the name.

Unfortunately I've not got an iPad so I can't check exactly what you might be seeing.

MmeLindt · 21/03/2011 13:53

Wait, I will have a look on iPad.

tbh, I find following slebs pretty boring now, although I used to when I first used twitter. Most of the people I follow are MNetters, journalists, bloggers or just random folk. They reply to you too, which most slebs don't.

mosschops30 · 21/03/2011 14:18

Thanks mme

No, for some reason that is missing on the iPad app. I use the Osfoora HD app, as I prefer the way the conversations are displayed.

BadgersPaws · 21/03/2011 14:42

I use the actual Twitter App by Twitter...
