Yes that's the option.

For some reason your iTunes has been set up to copy it's music off of CD in AAC format, we need to change this to be MP3.

  1. From the Edit Menu in iTunes select "Preferences"
  2. Click "General" and then click "Import Settings"
  3. Where it says "Import Using" select "MP3"
  4. Click "OK" and then "OK" again.
  5. Select a song
  6. Have another look at the Advanced Menu, does this now say "Create MP3 Version"?

Right- Now that you are able to convert your existing songs in iTunes, do that for all your tracks, then switch to using Media Player as I told you yesterday.

iTunes doesn't like talking to non-apple devices. Yes, as Lady Gaggia said you could install an iTunes agent, but that isn't reliable - I struggled with it, and I do IT support as part of my job.

Clumsymum I'll have another go but I think I've tapped so many keys yesterday that I've buggered my PC Blush

You can't have "buggered your PC"

Try the conversion first for all your tracks

You shouldn't need media player and you shouldn't need iTunes Agent, that's just adding even more software into the mix and could just confuse things.

Let's just get one track working before we try all the rest.

So you've done my steps 1 to 6 above.

Now do this:

  1. Select a song and select that "Create MP3 Version" option from the Advanced menu.
  2. A new copy of the song will appear. Drag that to your desktop.
  3. Close down iTunes.
  4. Right click on the song on your desktop and click properties, what us the "Type of File" now?

"Yes yes yes I have been able to download an old CD track to the MP3 player"

Brilliant :)

Now that you've changed that "Import Setting" option to be MP3 any CD that you import into iTunes will now be able to be copied to your Sony in the way that you've already done.

So with the music that you've imported into iTunes possibly the easiest thing to do would be to delete it, reimport it using the new settings and then just drag to the player.

That means that you will have just one copy of each song on your computer and it will be in the right format for both iTunes and your Sony.

If you don't want to do that go through selecting the songs that you want on the player (holding CTRL and clicking on songs will allow more than one to be selected), then do the Advanced/Convert thing and then drag the new songs created to the player.

"I'm going to have a break and do it again but write it down so I don't forget"

I did say that once you knew what to do it would be easy enough to sort out :) Getting to know how to do something new like this on a computer can be tricky, especially through a forum like this, but once you've got it it's easy enough to repeat.

"Next I want to download comedy from BBC iplayer and Radio 4 I love News Quiz."

Now that's harder... Not impossible, but not simple...

The BBC don't want you do that and you'll need some software to help you get around it. Someone will know what you're after but it's not something that I've done.

Don't worry if I miss the News Quiz I'm sure they will repeat them in the care home I'm going to! Smile

Starbear - Good for you.

I need to get some work done, but when I have time I'll take you thru subscribing to BBC comedy podcasts, and getting them onto your player.

"when I have time I'll take you thru subscribing to BBC comedy podcasts, and getting them onto your player."

Subscribing to podcasts and getting them onto the player should be a doddle, the BBC offer them in MP3 format.

However StarBear wants to download from iPlayer to the Sony Player, and that's different. I know that it's possible, and I could probably bluff my way through it, but I've never done it...

I'll give you a break for now but, Is SONY hated by other companies in the media? I know George Micheal hates them but why the BBC!
