Music Downloads for a Mac?

Does anyone know if there any free, legal! music sites from which we can download to an MP3 player via a Mac? Or am I being stupid and there are loads and I'm just not doing it properly? My DS has just bought an MP3 player. We checked that it would work with a Mac, but have struggled all afternoon with it. Unfortunatly I am a complete techno phobe! So any help and advice would be great.

I only use itunes, the only other one I know of is Spotify, you could try that. I think Limewire has been discontinued.

Free MP3 downloads usually aren't legal.

There are services such as Spotify which are free, but then they're usually quite limited and don't just allow you to download MP3 files that will then play on any MP3 player.

However with a Mac you can buy from places other than iTunes, for example both Amazon and Play can be used with a Mac and will give you "standard" MP3 files.

So the trick is more about how to get the music onto the player, and if you give some more information about what the player is someone can probably help you out.

As a general rule of thumb I'd expect a "generic" MP3 player to appear on your Desktop and in Finder when you connect it. You can then double click on it and you should be able to "drag" MP3 files onto it from either somewhere else on your machine or from iTunes (well usually from iTunes, there might be some limits depending on exactly what you're trying to copy).

Thanks for your help. We seem to have made some progress today - enough to keep him going for a while anyway. Think part of the problem was me not taking plastic wrapping off battery :o - said I was a complete technophobe didn't I!
