have just set up my new broadband. got rid of AOL and installed O2...so far so good. everything seems to be working fine except that every application that uses sound.......youtube...Iplayer...games on facebook etc etc, has speeded up.

I rang O2 who said it was nothing to do with their router and they had never heard of it before.

I was convinced that was a load of crap and that it must be to do with the new router, but have just played some music on Itunes, that was already on the computer and thats going fast too, so there must be something wrong with the computer!!

can anyone help....is there a setting thats been messed about with that I can just reset....please!!!!!

Are you sure that the video is speeded up too?? It's just that we had an obscure and similar sounding callout fairly recently from a customer who described the fact that all voices played on her computer suddenly sounded like "characters from Alvin & The Chipmunks" Grin It turned out to be all down to a "karaoke" mode being enabled within the audio settings Confused

Just for additional info, in their case the settings for the sound effects were accessed through a Realtek icon within control panel. I'm not sure which/whether other audio chipset manufacturers provide a similar feature?

washingmachinefiend · 18/02/2011 08:25

lazydog I love you Grin karaoke was set to +4 have just fixed it. thankyou thankyou thankyou!!!!

have to ring O2 now and apologise for blaming them last night Blush

Karaoke setting - never knew that existed. Just checked, yep my Acer Laptop (with Realtek) has a setting for that.

Wouldn't bother ringing O2... send them an e-mail mentioning the support assistants name so they can print it out and keep it as reminder that customers with chipmonks in their computer may have a Realtek Karakoe mode enabled

Ha ha, I've seen that one too. When my mate first described it, I never believed him until we found the culprit.
