you should have a cable - it's the one used ot charge it with as well.

this page explains most htings on how to transfer etc.

do make sure you use the free.kindle email address, not just the kindle one, if you transfer via email, as that way you won't be charged.

thereis a "managing oyur kindle" page too, which gives advice as to which email is being used.

silverfrog · 11/02/2011 11:00

you won't need calibre for a PDF, just ofr stuff that is in other ereader format (eg EPUB, vs MOBI)

Kindles can handle PDFs, althoguh I haven't tried it, so don't know how well they translate as such.

KatyMac · 11/02/2011 11:25

Oh - I didn't realise the cable did that

Gulp

OK - I'll have a go

How much will fit on the Kindle?

OP posts:
silverfrog · 11/02/2011 11:30

the kindle support page says attached files (they are talking abut transferring via email) should be 50MB or less, so yuo'll be fine with 7.7MB

good luck!

KatyMac · 11/02/2011 14:15

OK I have the link to the PDF on-line; how do I email it?

OP posts:
silverfrog · 11/02/2011 14:26

Probably the easiest thign to do is to download it to your computer, and save as a document.

then, following the instructions in the earlier link, attach it to an email, and send it to the relevant free kindle address.

EsmeWeatherwax · 11/02/2011 14:35

If you should choose to convert the PDF using calibre, you'll be able to use the annotate and text resizing features of your Kindle with it, thats what I would do for OU anyway. Will be doing it next time I start a course.

KatyMac · 11/02/2011 14:38

Ok this is embarrassing now

How do I download it to my computerBlush

OP posts:
silverfrog · 11/02/2011 14:48

click the link for the PDF.

it should open up, as a document you can read.

along the top somewhere there will be a "file" tab - click, and locate "save as".

this shoud open a dialogue box, with options ot save and where etc on your computer.

file as you would for any documnet - check you know where it is going so you can locate it to attach to email.

save.

then open up your email porgramme and attach it and send to free kindle address.

KatyMac · 11/02/2011 14:51

No it opens in a webpage

OP posts:
silverfrog · 11/02/2011 14:52

can oyu pos tthe link, or PM it to me, so I can have a look?

I don't think th elink will email because of the OU

When I right click I get "save link as...."

OP posts:
silverfrog · 11/02/2011 15:01

ok.

so with right click, you get "save as" - go ahead and save/file as usual.

silverfrog · 11/02/2011 15:04

oh hang on, sorry. "save link as" won't help much, probably.

hmm.

so, if you open it on OU ,what does it look like? can you then save it anywhere? is there a help tutorial on the OU pages anywhere for this?
