Can you think of any memorable online advertising campaigns?

Have to do some research on online advertising, and trying to think of good online ad campaigns which may or may not be linked to other media.

Mind is a blank! Be grateful for any ideas, thanks Smile

I blank out ads - either via tools on PC or mentally.

I find the majority too annoying because they have constant movement. Some ads on tvguide.co.uk for Dell and a chocolates maker have both horizontal and vertical moving ads. I have not wiped them (yet) but only because I can adjust the portion of the window I am viewing to not see them at all.

Sorry.

The was great, and mainly due to going viral on Twitter/FB.

Another one that pased by me (happily) as I am not using Twitter or FB consciously or not...

Yes, not even touching FB or Twitter when firms say they will give away discounts or prizes via those services.

NG
It is a GREAT ad. I imagine that a high % of shower gel/deo for men is bought by women so makes sense to target women.

My DH bought some home from the States and now stands in the bathroom doing the "Look at your man, now look at me..." bit.

:o

Thanks for your responses, even you NG, good to know why people don't like them.

Greatful for any more

I think that you need to make a split between "traditional" online advertising and things managing to go viral.

Many people, like NG, either literally or metaphorically block out the adverts on web pages.

Viral campaigns, which can be either advertiser or fan initiated like the RATM single was, are things that people in theory want to make an effort to see and get involved with.

However if an advertiser tries to launch their own viral campaign there can be trouble. The people who try to launch them can sometimes be very clumsy and end up offending the people they actually want to attract. Making up accounts and posting on forums is the sort of thing that will annoy people. We've seen it on here once where someone tried to advertise one of those companies who were doing the Government sponsored home computer thing. A little bit of digging showed with almost complete certainty that it was someone involved in the company and they ended up looking very incompetent.
