Log on with what, to what, and in which country ?

I'm just being nosy about the country :)

(though it certainly might help answer whether it is easy, or even possible... for example I read that there are restrictions on using wireless networks if you are outside a building, in France (!)... Not likely to affect me anytime soon, as I need a new passport, but the youngest of my sisters and her husband have a holiday -> retirement home over there, so worth knowing if/when I do visit, or if anyone else visits them there.)

Checking mail ? Using 'fon' to get wireless access where you are staying ?
