Can you recommend an MP3 player that can be used with speakers?

Is there such a thing other than the ipod nano? I just want something basic that can be used to download and listen to music with headphones and speakers. No bells or whistles required.

There are lots of other options out there, far too many to go through here. With anything other than an iPod you cannot use an iPod Dock. However there are many speakers and stereos that take a lead that you plug in to your headphone socket on the player and will amplify what the device is currently playing.

In terms of downloading music as long if the player supports MP3 (and I think all of them will) then you can use services like Amazon and Play.

You can even buy music from iTunes if your player supports the AAC (MP4) format or are willing to convert the music using iTunes into MP3 format.

Thanks badgers, that's good information to get me started. I've really got no clue about this stuff - it seems to be Apple or nothing, but that's clearly not the case. I'll get googling...

It might be worth popping along to an electrical shop or Amazon, do try and find some reviews as some players do sound a bit rubbish.

What you want to look for is sound quality, battery life, storage space and, of course, price.
