Flip camcorders and the like

Really, really struggling to come up with an idea for a Christmas present for DH.

Does anyone have any experience with a Flip camcorder, or one of the me-too versions by Kodak and the like?

We don't have a HD telly (I don't know if this is relevant but thought I should share!) and I already have a limited video function on our camera, but you can only take 1-2 minute clips with this really.

All recommendations gratefully received.

Have a flip from last Christmas. We use it to grab snatches of the kids. Good for that and watching back on laptop. Difficult to e-mail films. Not good for getting a lot in the frame but if you want something easy to carry around and capture the moment and you are not too worried about getting the perfect film then its good and very easy to use.

Thank you thats useful to know. I still can't decide whether it's better to get something little, that he can take anywhere (but lower quality picture) or get a bigger better camcorder but risk ending up never taking it anywhere with us.

Honestly, the pressure of Christmas!

Flip has memory inbuilt whilst the Kodak one needs a memory card too which adds to the cost. They are cheap in Jessops atm however. My d has a Flip and loves it

Can anyone tell me how good quality the video is? I'm not sure whether it is like a camcorder (but without zoom etc) or more like the basic video you find on mobiles.

Here

My DH took this on ours.

I like ours - easy to carry around, very simple to use, pretty decent picture quality.

Ours is just the ordinary version but I think that Argos might have the HD version on special offer at the mo. I was looking at it while I was in last week, Its smaller than the 1 we have & I presume the pic quality must be better cos it's HD. I think they were £100. Might be worth a look anyway Smile

Thanks, anonnyme thats really useful.

I went for the HD ultra in the end - through amazon though, but still quite a good discount for the 8gb version.

I can't wait to get my hands on it give it to DH on Christmas morning. Wink
