We are replacing our tv (sore point -see other thread) and want another tv/DVD. Last time (18m ago) they were all with DVD.
This time comet had 2 and the one we wanted was put of stock. Waiting to try asda or Wednesday when comet may have more in.

I thought people would still want them for bedrooms etc even if not for living room.

They have them in M&S - on the website too Smile

We're getting dh's granny one for Christmas for her bedroom.

Tesco have them in even our small local store. I expect they're on the tesco direct site too.

nymphadora · 21/11/2010 16:26

Our huge tesco doesn't and M&S doesn't sell much never mind tvs!

Want to be able to return it easily as I've had too much trouble with electrical stuff to buy online!

Sony stopped making them said DVD bits went wrong and the TVs went on for years - we have done away with both of the kids ones after they borke but we have one in our bedroom from M&S - it is great and we got a 5yr free guarantee with it when bought it which our guy who came to rig it all up saod was worth more than the TV - has gone wrong twice and M&S just rock up with a new one - honestly if you can get one on the net with a guarantee with M&S get one!

nymphadora · 21/11/2010 16:29

Our problem is the digital tv bit went & the DVD is fine!

I second the not wanting to buy electrical online but with comet and tesco (and no doubt many others) if you order online to collect instore you get a better price and can still return to store if you're not happy.

nymphadora · 21/11/2010 16:32

Thanks didn't know you could do that.

Can't you just buy a set top box then? If there's an input to the TV either scart or hdmi you can just tune into that.

cybbo · 21/11/2010 16:35

I've just bought one with DVD and freeview for £120

Housemum · 21/11/2010 16:43

We just bought a Sony one from John Lewis for teenage DD's room (yep, she had to wait until nearly 18 before I let her have one!)

Sony TV & DVD

I think they are cheaper on Amazon, but we had some John Lewis vouchers, and also you get a free 5 year guarantee there.

nymphadora · 21/11/2010 16:58

Tv is on the wall , point being that we don't have boxes or wires. currently using laptop plugged in but the digital bit won't accept anything!

Tesco & comet both out of stock.

No john Lewis near.

We got one in Argos, 19" with dvd.

AnnieLobeseder · 21/11/2010 17:02

I've just got a Grundig 22' DVD combo, with HD and Freeview. Lovverly! It was 1/3 off at Argos.

AnnieLobeseder · 21/11/2010 17:03

Sorry, 22", not 22'! That would be one enormous telly! Grin

nymphadora · 21/11/2010 17:04

Just checked Argos! They had a choice of 5!
But then the website crashed before I showed dh Hmm

will see what they have in our local one

Digital bit on what model TV ?

If it is on the wall, where does the mains wire and aerial go ? I assume either through the wall (in which case add DVD the other side) or you have a conduit sunk into plasterwork before painting or wallpaper was used on wall...

NetworkGuy · 22/11/2010 11:21

As someone mentioned, problems with a combo is if one part goes kaput.

DVDs and CD players have moving parts, and therefore more likely to have a fault.

A friend runs a Hi-Fi shop and dead CD players are high on the list, usually in the 4 to 6 year age, but depends on amount of use.

If the laser dies there are difficulties getting replacements and things are constantly moving on.

Did not spot from original post what size you were after. Ebuyer.com, Scan.co.uk and SVP.co.uk are some of the mail-order firms I would look at (also Amazon, of course) but there are also branches of Richer Sounds (.com) selling home cinema/TVs/hi-fi and sometimes have good deals. Sound and Vision is a big specialist firm, in Lancashire which does online orders too, plus the usual, Argos / Comet / supermarkets.
