I am about to buy an Amazon Kindle - I live in the Republic of Ireland but will be buying from and having it posted to a Northern address to save me having to pay shipping from America.

Will it def work for me? Am I correct in thinking that you can connect via a USB to download ebooks? The 3g/wifi thing is mainly for downloading elsewhere and magazines, yes?

If I can get any reassurance I'll stop pestering and just buy one!

it says in the blurb you can download from a usb, doesnt come with it tho. i use one that came with my blackberry.
it only takes a few mins to set up wifi connection and the books are there within seconds.

VivaLeBeaver · 15/11/2010 13:51

I download over wifi, don't use the cable, but you could do if you have no wifi or would prefer to use the cable.

Have you got an amazon.co.uk account for buying ebooks from?

BeaSpellsaLot · 15/11/2010 13:56

Yes I have a UK amazon account.

I was just a bit worried as I am not sure if we have wifi or not Confused

So I would just have to buy the cable just in case?

can you take your laptop around the house or do you have a computer thats plugged in?

BeaSpellsaLot · 15/11/2010 14:17

Computer plugged in... but I think the modem could be set up to be wireless.

I looked on the 3g coverage site and while we are light purple (low speed or sommat) my sister's addy is dark purple so fine.

So theoretically I could download books at my sister's house?

this its cheaper than amazon

hifi · 15/11/2010 14:19

yes if you scan for her network and she has the password.just plug in it may be easier

BeaSpellsaLot · 15/11/2010 14:46

You have to have a code for the 3G too?

I think I will end up plugging it in! Once I have a load of books on it there will be no other problems?

Thanks for cable link Smile

BeaSpellsaLot · 15/11/2010 15:51

Have any of you bought a case?

VivaLeBeaver · 15/11/2010 16:25

I got this case so the screen doesn't get scratched in my bag.

MmeLindt · 15/11/2010 17:35

I have this one

It is very slim so does not add bulk or weight to my Kindle. And you can use it as a stand. I went for the green one.

geordieminx · 15/11/2010 21:15

BeaSpellsaLot · 16/11/2010 21:20
