Some firms lump all incoming mail into one mailbox. I don't have a Sky account so cannot be sure what they do.

I would always recommend getting a free mail account from some service like Google Mail, YahoO! or Live.co.uk (*) so over the years, when changing ISP, you don't need to tell anyone your mail address has changed.

(*) also offered as Hotmail, but run and owned by Microsoft... yuk - very messy if you ever have someone break into your mail account.

You might ask them whether they want to go through switching e-mail accounts again if they ever decide to go to another company for internet service... then they might understand the benefit of switching once to say Google Mail, and not having to do so ever again!

Glad you sorted things for them OK.
