Help! iPhone or Blackberry

TwoIfBySea · 19/08/2010 13:13

Ironically I'm not a tech-head and I've asked colleagues which one I should chose - get a Blackberry Curve or treat myself to an iPhone 4.

My head is about to implode with the amount of information they have given me. I never use up my minutes, rarely use up my texts so this time I want an internet friendly phone that will also let me organise my life a bit better than my old, dusty filofax (see, I can't even type that without cringing, I'm not pretentious...but I do like a bit of geekology!)

Help - I need personal choices here and why! Thank you, I'm going to lie down in a darkened room to prepare.

I went for an iPhone because the screen size is bigger than on a Blackberry so I thought it would be better fror internet browsing. I have a 3GS one rather than 4 so the price was the same.

I think that the Blackberry is better for work emails and stuff but I don't know why.

VinegarTits · 19/08/2010 13:22

iphone definately

like pot says, BB is good for emails, but cant beat iphone fore great internet browsing and the apps

PaulineCampbellJones · 19/08/2010 13:23

I have an iPhone for personal use and a Blackberry for work. The iPhone is better for everything apart from tonnes of emails. Has a decent calendar and the internet is superb!

thisismyname · 19/08/2010 13:23

id say neither and get yourself a htc desire.

champagnesupernova · 19/08/2010 13:52

thisismyname - why is the desire better?
Don't want a BB as have a Mac so iphone is automatic choice but very £££ for me atm as would be changing networks and terminating a contract early.

Tee2072 · 19/08/2010 14:12

iPhone. Just cuz I say so. Grin

thisismyname · 19/08/2010 16:10

i just wanted to throw in another option lol. Seriously though a colleague has a blackberry and i tried to play with it and she didnt recommend it and i dont buy the iphone hype. I was betweenthe two and was advised on here to consider the HTC desire so i went to cpw for a play and i got it free on a mega cheap tarriff and am well happy bunny with it. Its a personal choice though.

TwoIfBySea · 19/08/2010 18:39

Thanks for making my decision harder thisismyname!!!

Actually I had heard the HTC Desire and Wildfire were pretty good. Not having to pay out for the iPhone is a bonus too. Okay, maybe the HTC then!

sorry Grin, you can get lots of free apps which is novel but tbh after a bit i just use it more of a phone. I got mine on orange £15 a month ultd texts, 250 mins chattering and ultd internet within fair policy thingy.

onmyhols · 19/08/2010 21:45

Just thought I would throw my twopenneth in-

The desire is great but I only got mine a few days ago and I'm going to take it back. See my thread "Battery life SO BAD!!!"-Sorry, don't know how to do link.

It's on charge a lot!

thisismyname · 19/08/2010 22:16

ahh you see i got it as rated against iphone at the time and blackberry battery was better. To be fair i dont hammer the titernet alot and turn internetty bit of until i actually want to check my emails which helps alot. Them older phones that are on standby for weeks are fab Grin

onmyhols · 19/08/2010 22:32

I've turned all the other bits off and turned down the brightness but TBH, hasn't made a bit of difference.

notquitebusinessclass · 20/08/2010 10:16

I have both, but prefer my blackberry as my fingers are too fat to text easily. I can text far faster and without looking on the blackberry.
My iPhone is just a nice toy, but as I am only paying £15 a month for a new one, it is not a waste of money.

potplant · 20/08/2010 10:21

Battery life on the iPhone is pretty poor tbh, especially when the DCs get their hands on it.

My DH has a real old skool mobile (bought it for £7.99!). We went on holiday and he forgot his charger and it was still going strong after a week.

BlingLoving · 20/08/2010 10:41

Bberry is good for emailing in bulk - ie sending and receiving a lot of email. iphone is better for everything else. If you want to surf the internet and only get occassional emails, stick with iphone (or one of the Android phones like the htc desire).

Blondeshavemorefun · 28/08/2010 18:55

iphone all the way

yes battry isnt fab, but if you turn down brightness on screen and sounds for games then battery life good

tho i did buy in car chargers and spare plug charger off ebay for work and car so if battery goes low then i can generally charge it as in one or the other if not home iyswim

was £2.99 off ebay

KernowMother · 30/08/2010 20:14

If it's for work then BB imo. I can't stand the iphone keyboard for typing long emails and love my BB for this.

On the other hand I love DH's iphone for the apps and games.

Therefore, work out what you will mostly use it for ... work or playing.

zerominuszero · 08/09/2010 13:14

Hmmm, slightly old thread so apologies if you have already made your decision (in which case what did you go for?)

My advice is:

If you can afford an iphone then definately get that. If you can't, get a BB. If you want a qwerty keyboard get the curve or bold (I think bold is supposedly to be slightly better). If you don't care about a qwerty keyboard, get the newest Pearl 3G - these are all kinds of bb.

If money is even more of an issue than that, then definately consider an Android phone like the htc desire.

TonariNoTotoro · 08/09/2010 13:15

agree with thisismyname - HTC desire#
My sister's got one and it's AMAZING (much better than DP's iPhone.. )

You can get angry birds on it, if that's a consideration Wink

TonariNoTotoro · 08/09/2010 13:22

You can get kindle on the HTC Desire as well, which is nice :)
