ipod Touch sound problem

ds' ipod Touch - bought in March - won't always make sound unless docked or with headphones. Any ideas whether he has inadvertently hit mute setting or if it is a problem ?

This happened to me but resolved itself after I rebooted it and restored it

Try rebooting it, and if this doesn't work, then restore, but make sure you have backed it up first.
