Just heard on Radio 5 that mac users are being advised to use anti virus software as there is some online banking threats out there and if Mac users are targeted without antivirus the banks won't help them (information received 2nd hand via my dad so not sure how accurate it is).

So as a Mac user I need to look at my options. Is there a good free antivirus available or would I be better advised to buy one and if so which one?

I wouldn't worry about installing anti-virus, there aren't any viruses for Mac OS X and running is an unnecessary waste of computing power and money.

The moment there are Mac viruses the world will hear all about it....

I've not heard anything about banks not helping people who don't have anti-virus software.

Although you might want to install a basic free AV since if your bank do take that policy they might not understand that some systems are a tad more secure then Windows - although I would assume the T's & C's would state that you need an AV.

Try en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_antivirus_software (not sure how up to date it is)

Most the threats out there are Cross-Site-Scripting attacks in any case I believe. An anti-virus won't necessarily protect you there.
