Just got back after 2 weeks away. I've really been looking forward to seeing my garden [saddo].

My mother in law promised me she would water it for me and she probably has. Once.

It's horrible, I've lost loads. Carnege. The climbing rose I bought with some money we had as a wedding gift is looking decidly sorry for it's self and 2 relativly new and previously glorious clematis are dead.

So, any recovery tips for the stuff that's not beyond help ? Is it just water water water ? I usually feed when I remeber and will give it a good go tonight hut s there some miracle recovery powder i can give it ? Like berocca for gardens...

Mil has managed to water ds's strawberries well though and she's been here enough to ferret out all of my ironing do it so I can't be angry too much. I am gutted though

Read it as murdered IN MY garden... though maybe she will yet?

Oh, horrible for you. Water lots and hope your stuff has deep enough roots to recover.

Mil cut down loads of stuff in my garden while we were away 'to keep things tidy'. I lost a lot of plants.

There may yet Be an actual murder committed..Dh wants to go over there later but I don't know if I can face it. My garden looked beautiful before we went

The stupid thing is I asked her if she wanted me to leave out the sprinkler do she wouldn't even have yo do anything but she told me she'd rather do it by hand.

Werewolf, if she'd cut anythind down she'd definatly be for it.

Next year I'm going to hire a gardener!

Poor you.
I do think you are better off next time leaveing your garden in the hands of a regular gardener who knows what you have and what needs watering.

I've just almost filled the wheely bin

LOL I read that she had been murdered i your garden and was about to shout troll!

poor you though

I was told that the problem is the roots. They are like straws and if they have collapsed completely then they will not recover. You will have to wait and see what will recover.

Would not blame you for dunking MIL in the watering can.

We have just bought a timer so that we don't have to rely on anyone to water the garden, was only about €50 so cheaper than a gardener.

Poor you. When we returned from holiday last year I burst into great sobs when I saw the state of our garden. My neighbours were doing it but it didn't get done ...... Maybe I should forget to feed their fish? Or feed their fish to neighbourhood cats?

All my lush lovingly created and nurtured baskets and pots went straight in the bin.

Murdering MIL in the garden sounds good!

We are getting an automatic watering system this year so that we don't have to rely on anyone. Sad.

Jacksmama · 04/07/2010 17:33

Aaaarrrrgh. for you. If someone killed my garden there would be murder done.

Try watering lots. Might have to give it a week of gentle soaking to see what revives.

Then present her with a bill for everything you have to replace .

Earthymama · 04/07/2010 22:32

Next time get a local reliable teenager to do it for a small fee!

We asked an 11 year old and she came in watered and fed the cats....with her nan! I saw her mum last week and she said how much she enjoyed the responsibility.

I had a moss and fern garden a few years ago. Then my father weeded 'That messy bit' whilst I was at work.
Parents!

ArseHolio · 05/07/2010 12:41

A moss and fern garden sounds lush!

My garden looks a little better today after a good soaking but it's full of bare patches and empty spots so I am off to the garden centre in a while. Every cloud and all that - I LOVE buying plants!

We did go to mils yesterday, she didn't mention it and nor did I for a couple of hours and then she came out with some shit about my hose tap attachment being broken which I know is complete crap as I used it yesterday and it was covered in cobwebs so had definatly not been moved while we were away so it would seem she just didn't bother even though she know how much it meant to me. She must have seen it all whithering away and decided she still couldnt be arse to do anything about it.

Next year the neighbours teenagers will be getting a job and the only door mil has a key to will be locked from the inside so she can't use my house to get away from FIL and go though my things.

B&Q here I come

'Next year the neighbours teenagers will be getting a job'

As the mother of impoverished teenagers, I thank you.
