Help urgently - builders just moved wren's nest with baby birds in.

They just now showed it me - removed it from it's place on a pipe on a wall that is about to be knocked down. What can I do? There is a space to put it back on the adjoining wall only 2feet away from where it was - will that help?

I do know about it being illegal to move them and how the mother can abandon her chicks because of it and totally agree this is not ideal, but I'm stuck with what I've got.

Feel awful. They are so gorgeous and I would hate for someone to move my baby!

Put it back as close to original nesting place as you can. Do not touch chicks. Ask builders to work somewhere else for a while. Good luck

OrmRenewed · 29/06/2010 14:38

Yes, put it as near as possible but I have a horrible feeling the parents will abandon them.

snice · 29/06/2010 14:40

I would say they're knackered- sorry

ShinyAndNew · 29/06/2010 14:42

If you put it back the parents might return. I'd leave it there for a couple of hours. If they don't come back you could hand rear the chicks or contact a rescue.

grapeandlemon · 29/06/2010 14:43

Yes I think they are v likely to be abandoned

Going well so far! we put the nest up on next doors wall with bit of broken pot to protect it and mamma has revisited - even while the builders were still working. I'm cautiously hopeful...

I just watched mamma taking food to her babies. Couldn't quite see them as the nest is too high but it looks such a cosy set-up. I'll try to take a photo.

Fab

Still going well?

Gentleness · 01/07/2010 18:10

Going great. We watched the mum feed 3 little gaping mouths this afternoon and the builder brought his kids round to take a look too.

I love a happy ending!
