I do, whether I should or not I don't know

I also put the ashes from our wood burner on (& the cat litter but not the poo) - & I don't know if that's right either

You can def. put wood ash and charcoal ash as long as not impregnated with firelighter chemical stuff or coal. You can put the paper and the wood type cat litter in but not the poo.

If I were a little worm (which I am not) doing all the work for you, I would say, "only wood ash and not too often please". Cough, cough... I need a drink, gasp!

Chatelaine your post made me

thank you for all your replies, it was only a tiny barbecue we did so only a very small amount of ash went in the compost
