We moved house recently and I have no idea what is what in the garden yet. I can see there is a fair bit of weeding to be done but I am seriously hampered because I'm not totally sure which plants are weeds! Obviously I can tell the dandelions and couch grass etc, but there are some that I am just puzzled over.

Is there anywhere online or a book anyone could recommend to identify weeds?

I think with 'weeds' you just have to pull up whatever you know is a weed and leave the rest to grow. One mans weed is anothers wildflower as they say (or something like that).

My garden 5 years after moving in is 30% 'weeds'. Some of them are lovely ie opium poppies, toadflax, forgetmenot etc

I read once you should wait 1 year before digging up anything in a new garden - you don't know what you are disturbing e.g. bulbs etc. It's tricky, sometimes I have weeded over enthusiastically and have realised later they were wild plants e.g. forget me nots. Though I would weed out dandelions and couch grass myself

do you know though, thats is what I love about a new garden, just waiting to see what will come up. Half the battle is having the patience to wait
