Good book for total novice wanting to grow veg?

Can anyone recommend a good book for the novice veg grower? Novice gardener of any kind, in fact, but vegetables are a priority. It's a present for my dp and I think he would prefer to do it organically if possible.

At the moment I was thinking of going for this:

www.amazon.co.uk/Grow-Organic-Fruit-Vegetables-Hamilton/dp/1845377184/ref=sr_1_4?ie= UTF8&s=books&qid=1272374210&sr=1-4

Any better tips welcome!

I've got this one from the book people.
I can't say if it's better or worse than any others, but I'm happy with it.

Thanks Paisley -- I hadn't seen that one.

Joy Larckom's book Grow Your Own Vegetables is very good & comprehensive - in particular it has a month by month guide, plus a section that goes through each vegetable one by one with instructions.

I swear by The Vegetable Expert by
D.G. Hessayon

The 'expert' books are always really good and I carry this one to the allotment with me to refer to all the time

Oh thanks so much everyone! The Hessayon is instant nostalgia -- my dad had them all (which is a good thing), and I had quite forgotten about them. Much appreciatd.

I love Carole Klein's Your Own Veg.

It has been our constant reference, along with The Allotment Book, since we started growing vegetables four or five years ago. I cart it around with me, our copy is battered!

I also think some of the magazines are good, especially Grow Your Own, if you buy it over a year you get an overview of what to do each month.

I have joy larkcom and Hessayon, book mad as well as gardening mad!!
