I'll be in the greenhouse if you want me.....

DH has finished putting up my Ebay greenhouse and I'vd just transferred all my seedlings in. Put some strawberries in a couple of hanging baskets, planted sweetcorn and some Hestia runners in a pot .

My phone picks up the wifi signal so I can use the net and I have a chair it. Don't think I'll be in the house much any more !

Sounds like bliss! Do you have a knotted hankie on your head and a flask of strong tea?

Envy

I hadn't thought of knotted hankie, flask is on standby. Have come back in and it's definitely not as peaceful in the house. I bet it's lovely out there when it rains, a bit like camping but drier (if DH has put it up properly) I can see fights between us as to who gets to sit in the greenhouse, we might need a rota, I paid for it though so shall demand extra time.

Do you have an electricity supply? A mini fridge would be good for the odd glass of something chilled

And of course a bookcase for the gardening porn eg Sarah Raven etc to be read in your comfy chair wearing your knotted hankie and sipping a chilled Prosecco

now I really am

No electricity but an ice box that keeps things frozen for up to 5 days and a flat pack book case in the garage. I'll have to upgrade my gardening books though, Joy Larkom doesn't have glossy pictures. I planted up a couple of hanging baskets with strawberry plants so hopefully some early ones to accompany my wine in a few weeks.

Also comfy chair will be comfier with cushions so the dog may find it's bed a bit flatter tomorrow as I stuck the spare ones in her bed cover. Tucked my aubergines and tomatoes under fleece for the night as I sadly went back to the house.

Can I ask how much was it and how big?

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 26/04/2010 11:47

It was an Ebay one, a Halls 6x 8, £185. I think it was quite steep for a second hand one but it was local and dismantled so I went for it. I've seen them on Gumtree a fair bit cheaper since.

Obviously in my head it is a gorgeous, huge, hardwood one but in reality I'll have to work up to that, I'm just pleased to have one for now.

It sounds lovely.
When I come home from work the first thing I do is rush out to check on my plants.

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 26/04/2010 19:21

I've just got back from the allotment and checked they are OK for the night. I'm sure my rainbow chard doubled in size in just one day.

And I love the fact I can use my iPhone out there, I wonder if there is a Greenhouse app?!

We had items taking a month to get through customs. It could be a long wait.

WomblesAbound · 26/04/2010 19:30

Ooops, wrong thread!

WomblesAbound · 26/04/2010 19:37

Very about the greenhouse. I have a poxy little 5 shelves high x 1 tray wide plastic thing.

And every windowsill in the house full of seed trays. DH is just about coping

aJumpedUpPantryBoy · 26/04/2010 20:05

There should be a greenhouse app - although DH wasn't very impressed the other day when I rang him from the greenhouse asking for a cup of tea.

snorkie · 26/04/2010 20:26

oooh I got a greenhouse last Autumn & it's fab . It has supplied green salads all winter & I have planted my tomatoes out in it this weekend, as well as stuff in pots waiting till the frost risk has passed.

... but I haven't got a comfy chair in it .

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 26/04/2010 20:46

I've possibly overstated the comfiness of my chair, it's only plastic, just a comfy plastic and I still do have cushion plans.

Until this weekend I had one of those plastic jobs as can't use the windowsill due to puppy that eats everything. Hadn't thought of ringing DH to bring refreshments, great idea, will try that tomorrow.

WynkenBlynkenandNod - my top tip is to withold your number (if you have caller ID)

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 26/04/2010 22:17

Excellent tip Pantry, I will try that tomorrow.
