I planted mine yesterday: Lady Chrystl, Charlotte, Kestrel, Sante, Cara and Desiree. I've put the first couple of rows under fleece to try and speed them up a bit. I'm not bothering with buckets this year as they were more trouble than they were worth last year.

What varieties are you growing?

Theres a frost coming mid week, as long as they are earthed up they shoudl be ok.

arran victory, international kidney and pink fir apple.

hoping to get the AVs in today if it's not a complete mudbath

Never mind earthed up - they're nowhere near breaking the surface yet!! Hope it's a good year with no blight.

Have you grown those varieties before littleomar - how do you find them? Last year was my first growing spuds, so I'm still choosing my varieties fairly randomly at the moment.

I'm growing Duke of York (first early), desiree, mayan gold, juliette and golden wonder (all maincrop), because we need them to store well -- though if it's a blighty summer we'll be buggered.

Duke of York and Cara in bags; Desiree and Pink Fir Apple in the garden plot. The Pink Fir Apples are so delicious - and we're only just now finishing off last year's harvest, which stored fantastically well in brown paper sacks. Haven't put the garden ones in yet, though - will probably wait a week or so as we're in a frost-pocket....

Foremost and Rocket. Never bother with anything later as we always get blight here.
