Does anyone know roughly how much lawn mowing companies charge

I know it will of course depend partly on the size of the garden but I'm trying to get an idea of likely hourly rate. We need a company that will provide their own equipment since the issue we're considering is whether its cheaper to pay someone to mow the lawn than to buy a lawnmopwer that can cope with the size and gradient of the garden.

I don't know about a gardening firm, but we pay £8 an hour to a man who lives locally. He uses his own kit and clears away the cuttings. We put a card in the local shop window.

Check out their gardens first though, to make sure they know what they are doing.

I may be late coming to this, we paid £10 every fortnight to a "gardener" essentially was a man who cut grass. Grass cuttings went into our gardening bin that the council collect as part of their recycling scheme.

Was front and back garden of a 3 bed detached house, on new build estate so relatively flat and small.

He brought his own petrol lawn mower and petrol strimmer.
