Is there ever any point in planting seeds later than the packet says?

Or, was I wasting my time sowing hollyhocks last week given that the packet said Feb-March?
If we have a good summer might they catch up? Would a good autumn to give them a chance to flower late? Or am I doomed to disappointment?

Thanks!

well, hollyhocks won't flower until the following year anyway (I think...) so probably ok to sow them late

These ones def say they flower the same year, unless you plant them in Sept and overwinter them in a greenhouse.

I am in hopes we'll get a good summer this year.
