plant food for fruit and veggies?

whats the best? my FIL has recomended mirical grow, as they can be quite pricey i thought i'd ask here aswell

I don't at all except

sulphate of ammonia on brassicas if they need it

tomato plant food on tomatoes.

and I mulch mulch mulch with manure and grass clippings.

(and ask my dh to pee on compost heap)
