I had read tips in a newspaper re best way to plant liles in pots that included sand. But I threw out the paper with the recycling and forgot to cut out the tips! Do you know the best way to plant them?

I seem to remember planting them in very deep pots with leaf mould - good drainage, maybe the sand was to help the drainage (this is before had garden), keep them out of frost if not frost hardy ones.

Thanks, I've got some tall pots.

And plant them towards the bottom of the deep pots, as many varieties root from the stem, so will be more securely rooted that way. The best compost to use is a mix of general purpose and John Innes No 3. Then keep a stern eye out for the lily beetles and exterminate them without mercy!

Thank you. Yes I remember the lily beetle beautiful but deadly.
