Brambles?

I have a patch of brambles in the corner of my garden that i hack back from time to time. I would really like to get rid of them.
How? any advice/tips would be very much appreciated.

You have to get the roots out - they can be really long. If it was me, I'd cut each one back to about 6 inches from the ground, to stop them attacking me, then dig each one up to get the roots out. If you don't get the roots, they'll just come back again.

Serious weedkiller might also do the trick, but you'd need one labelled something like "brush-killer" as they are so woody.

they have been there for years must the roots must enormous and i'm a wuss.
Any recommendations for some sort of agent orange/white phosphorus type weed killer?

We had some which you were meant to paint onto cut tree stumps to kill off the roots, but it could also be watered down and used as weedkiller on woody stuff, but I can't remember the name. If you look in the garden centre there should be something suitable I would think.

Hack back with long handled slasher then dig out roots with an azada/digging hoe (like this but with a shorter handle).
Really pretty easy to get out, Get digging sell the azadas, I have a light medium sized one (bought in my days in Spain) and it sorts pretty much anything in the garden that needs hacking out

Forgot to say if I were going to choose anything to have land overgrown with, brambles would be the thing, they are ok to get out and then once they're gone the land is usually pretty clean underneath
