Just how delicate is a newly laid turf lawn - must I really not walk on it for months on end??

We need to lay out a lawn. Using turf sods or tiles oe whatever they are called, is the fastest way. But now my DH says we cant use the darn garden for months to let the grass settle and grow. I have two toddlers, I'm not locking them in the house in spring and high summer while we have a grassed area for them to play in just outside... Just how delicate is the grass, I mean, it's just effing grass, surely??? How long after laying it must I avoid standing on it? 2 weeks i would have considered to be the max really..

I think he is mixing it up with seeding a lawn. We had grass laid as turf in our old house here as the landlord decided to put in a sprinkler system and dug up the old lawn and I refused to let him seed it as it would have taken too long. I think we walked on it within a week or so. It was lovely!

I think you need to wait until the weather warms up a bit, and then the turf will settle and grow quite quickly. A few weeks at the most, I would think. Just try to use different areas of it when you first get on it and give it a rest every now and then (ie don't put a swing down in one spot and leave it there!).

using turf is the quickest way to get a green lawn, but not necessarily the quickest way to get a useable one!

grass seed however, grows incredibly quickly... so I would be tempted to just seed it all, as long as you can protect it from hungry birds lol

Hmmm, thanks for that, I'll look up more into it to see if turf vs grass seed is faster... I really want the thing ready asap, I guess i am asking alot.
