Hi

I've got a lovley bird table, nice bird food, peanut and fat hangers and cut apple on the floor. Birds come and eat on the roof of my shed but don't use the bird table, does anyone have any idea why???

Birds are bloody picky these days. I've had a thing of nuts up for over a year! Even the squirrels haven't really bothered with it.

so its not just me... what can I do to get them to use the table?

Put it on the roof of your shed? {grin]

Maybe they feel safer on shed?

Is the bird table safe?
ie away from cats and predators.
Mine is a bout two feet away form hte fence to keep themm away from neighbouring cats.
Also it takes them a while to feel that it is 'ssafe' they are prob checking it out form the safety of the dhes roof!

Could be its positioning.
If it is near anywhere where a cat could jump on it or something they'll be scared. I moved mine from corner of garden to a more cenral position and they flock there now.

otherwise, just give it time. Maybe they don't know there's food regularly there yet!

X posts woo!
Also you have to keep putting the food there if they come to rely on it.
I can often be seen running across the garden in my dressing gown and wellies loading up my table!

I'll try moving it- its quite near the fence. I think the old bird table was more central. Thanks

The birds like to sit somewhere safe - like in the branches of the tree, so they can sort out their pecking order and keep an eye out for predators before they swoop in and gobble up all the food.
