Lots of my tomatoes are getting brown spots at bottom and then sort of huge horrid hole appears ??

Should i pick all the unaffected ones and risk green tomato chutney or do i have to throw the whole crop .I dont want to make everyone ill !!!

Think it might be to do with sporadic watering - not good news, for the plant that is!

sounds like it could be tomato blight, which has been really common this year.
Pick your green ones and burn the rest.

yes, sounds like blight, sorry. My friend's outdoor ones got it. Mine are in the greenhouse, and they have botrytis (sp?). Not a good year for tomatoes.

sounds more like blossom end rot than tomato blight to me

blight starts on the leaves, then you get sort of brownish bruises on the tomatoes.

blossom end rot grows into a big brownish scab type job at (you guessed it) the end that had the blossom on it, ie the bottom.

if it's a hole you could have those tomato caterpillers

anyway, none of the above will kill you if you eat the tomatoes
