there is not really a lot I can do with it except put pots on it, I was wondering about growing some veg in pots there. Anyone know what would be easy and take well to bein in pots. Also what time of year would I start it all off.

I like the idea of hanging tomatoes.

you could put gravel on top of the concrete too - not very expensive and looks a LOT nicer (IMO). Then some pots on top - lavender good if you're like me and forget to water things. I have lavender, a type of silvery thyme and trailing variegated ivy all in one pot - looks really nice.

We also just have a concrete slab for a garden - and as we're renting, we don't get to do anything significant. We went out and bought some wonderful trees in pots - a bamboo one and one other which I've forgotten. Oops. We also have invested in hydrangeas which I'm loving so much I'm thinking of going back for more. Colourful, seem to be pretty low maintenance etc. They look gorgeous. I've got various flowers in pots which doesn't work as well, I admit, and always plant bulbs in the autumn with winter flowering pansies for colour in the winter while they're getting ready to bloom. They look so pretty and make me happy when I look out of the window on a cold winter/spring day.

And of course, totally agree with the herb suggestions. And we might not like the weather currently but both my basil and mint are loving it!
