If my philadelphus in a pot is not big

As in ca. 80-100 cm tall, can I assume that it won’t grow huge when I plant it in the ground? I don’t have space for a big shrub, it would be planted under/in front of tall roses. Unfortunately, I don’t t know what variety it is. I’ve had it in this pot for many years and I prune it after flowering to more or less 40-50 cm. Also, do you have it in shade/dappled shade? That’s the only spot I have near the house. Now it’s in full sun, and flowers great, but since it’s in a pot, it has to be watered a lot. I am not sure it will flower in shade at all (north wall, with some afternoon sun; roses are doing great but they’re tall and get much more afternoon and morning sun).

@PinkCamelias My experience of other plants, namely a silver birch, that was small in a pot was it grew to full size once planted in the ground. I imagine it would be the same for your plant. I don't know if you can do the same as you would for a fig for example, where you bury slabs to create a contained area, but if uou can that might have the effect of a pot but with it being able to reach water in the soil further down
