Sweetcorn plants tall but no ears yet, any chance of cobs?

Our corn is a good height but so far there's no evidence of any ears on any of them, although a couple of the plants have tassels. That probably means there's going to be no chance of any cobs this season, doesn't it? A few early ones have one or two very stunted cobs, but none of the others have anything other than leaves.

You seem to have a lot of plants very close together there. Sweet corn is best planted about a foot or 18inches apart. They're hungry plants and need rich, manured soil and lots of water. I think yours have grown tall competing for light and have had to share their nutrients and water too much to succeed.

I always struggle with sweetcorn especially when the weather is so dry.

Ours have just started to get cobs, so there is hope!

It's not too much more closely spaced than I've done in previous years, and we've always had relatively good harvests. But of course the weather has been very different this season, so I'm more inclined to blame weather than growing conditions tbh.

We are on Scotland bit ours are just beginning to form cobs. I think there’s still time for them to grow.
