Red spots appearing on pear tree leaves, any idea what they are?

Does anyone know what these red spots are on our pear tree's leaves? They're not on any of the nearby apple or pear trees.

Dont know the name but i successfully got rid of that issue by temoving ALL the affected leaves and placing them in the bin (not leaving them in the garden). I also sprayed some anti fungus sspray. After a year, most of the red spots had gone away and after two years, my pear tree is entirely fine and fruiting quite well. Good luck

I find anti fungal sprays deal with most things on fruit trees. I have five fruit trees - apples, pear and cherries - and I spray them at the beginning of winter and again in spring.

We do this regularly as well, and none of the other trees seem to be affected, so it's weird.

If I did that, this tree would not have ANY leaves on it I fear.

Yes and that is fine. It was the same with my tree. You may leave only a handful of leaves. It is important to destroyed the affected leaves far away from your garden so the nasty spores don’t float around. Put them all in a plastic bag, tie a knot and put it in the bin. Dont compost! Next year you will have much less red spots

Should we be doing that de-leafing now, while the fruit is still growing or wait (or would that be too late)?

Yes! That's it. Although I'm not clear what solution the RHS is suggesting we do. It says "not" to prune the leaves: "Removal of leaves on heavily infected pear trees may do more harm than good". Although it doesn't say why. So now I'm confused.

I guess removing the leaves could risk shsling spores around?

Thanks all. I think we'll risk taking the affected leaves from the tree, probably trying to carefully put them in a plastic bag as we do so. We've not got any juniper or cedar nearby and do have another unaffected pear tree not so far away from this one.

Got this on my three year old pear tree. And all the small pears have disappeared - they were there one day and when I looked a week later they were all gone. Identified it as possible pear rust but haven’t done anything as I am an amateur!

Definitely pear rust. My dwarf pear tree gets it every year, I never do anything and it's never very badly affected.

The squirrels take my small pears away…

Do you have other pear trees? And if so, has it spread to them at all? The pears on our affected tree don't look as if they're suffering in any way.

No, I only have the one.

When I went to take the affected leaves off the affected pear tree, I saw that it had indeed spread to the other pear tree. I've already collected a full plastic bag of leaves but haven't even started on the other tree and there's still a bit on the first one. We spray all the trees twice a year and there are no juniper or cypress anywhere around as far as I know, but if it carries on the wind, I suppose the virus can come from anywhere really.
