My RHUBARB is covered with little 'crystals' and the stems are getting brown spots...thoughts?

It seems like something is eating the stems, some of the juice is seeping out through the holes that the 'something' made to enter, and causing the little sugar crystals on the stems. It wouldn't be a problem except the stems are also going brown. Please help me save our rhubarb, I love it so.

No, can't cover with custard, the brown bits are manky. Very sad!

Yes, maybe I need to leave them alone I'm sure its a pest though, not just oldness. Nasty mean pests. Squirrels eating my strawerries too

Riverford Organics say rhubarb has no pests (except sometimes slugs in its first year).

Also I read that the crown can get some kind of rot but it's been quite dry, hasn't it? So it may just be old age

Naughty squirrels though. Have you got a catapult?
