Does anyone else have a sudden explosion of hoverflies? Thousands of them. All of the flowers in my garden are covered. I’m in Dorset.

Not thousands - but yes noticed them particularly today and thought “hmmmm the hoverflies are doing well this year”. I’m in North Wales.

Hope this is generally a good thing??? Good pollinators and all that??

I think so. I’m not aware of any downsides to hoverflies! I have planted most of my garden for pollinators.

That's good news, DS has made a hoverfly bog to attract more this year. Not seen much action yet.

Yes. In the south east and noticed just this morning. It is kind of humid after the rainy week so I guess they like that.

They're responding to the aphid plague. Their larvae are aphid destructors like ladybirds' are. They can come in my garden anytime!

Oddly I don’t have that many aphids except for on my feverfew which is covered, though lots on the apple trees where I am very happy to see quite a few ladybird larvae chomping through them.

I love the hoverflies. They are so territorial in my garden, you get buzzed when you are in their area. They do make us laugh, they have no shame.
