I inherited a trio of silver birches and the dappled light on the papery bark in the evenings is so pretty this time of year.

Alliums always make me smile - they’re so improbable and whimsical, and the aubrieta is definitely the star of the rockery.

My salvias are looking and smelling absolutely beautiful at the moment. And my sunshine rose is blooming the most gorgeous yellow and red blooms. Also excited to see lots of stems on my bottle brush this year - nothing happened to it last year - so very excited to see it in full bloom in summer.

My crocosima lucifer, hanging baskets and pots !

The Salvias and Nepetas are blooming and are absolutely chock full of bees which makes me super happy.

Also the Ninebark, I bought it for the winter colour of the leaves but the flowers are so delicately pretty too.

I've a poppy that has taken up residence in the veg patch. I didn't plant it, presumably a gift from the birds. The first flower bloomed the other day and it was a gorgeous lilac with a purple centre, I've never seen one that colour that I can remember.

scrivette · 26/05/2026 21:06

My Black Lace is looking sunning aa it’s flowering and my King Charles Roses are beautiful. The bees are loving the honey suckle that is entwined around my apple tree.

I'm loving our wall bellflowers and bigroot geranium at the moment. They've really come out in the last few days and the purples are so vibrant. Sadly the geranium drop their petals almost as soon as they flower so we don't get to enjoy them for long.

That'll be me. Bigly time.
I have paved over that nasty, nasty grass with beautiful paving In the Rose Garden. It's part of my legarsy of Making America Granite Again.

An Opium poppy ? With greyish green leaves ?

CosmicBlunder · 26/05/2026 21:30

This poppy will fade and wilt by tomorrow, but this evening it is so lovely. Huge, blousy self seeded opium poppies which pop up randomly, no two the same. I have carefully curated fancy-ass cottage beds, but it's little serendipities like this that really make my heart sing.

CosmicBlunder · 26/05/2026 21:31

Ah, here she is.

Hey, I'm just swooning over a poppy too. Once my image is approved, you'll be able to see if it's an opium poppy -they have distinctive pale foliage and are typically taller and larger than other garden varieties. I love the surprise element.

Mycarsmellsoflavender · 26/05/2026 21:45

My Chilean potato plant is full of blossoms intertwined with a wild rose / dog rose which is also flowering.

No the leaves are definitely green green! But apparently I'd got to my 6th decade without knowing what an opium poppy looked like - I thought they were red too Blush

I went out to get a pic but the petals have blown, there are more buds though so I'll get another opportunity.

Lupins, alliums and foxgloves looking fantastic, also my peony that ive had at least 4 years is finally about to bloom!

My good friend gave me a deep pink paeony 45 years ago. I have moved house several times since but always bring a part of the mother plant with me. The poor thing is now in its forever spot and can finally settle in and be luscious.
The Sarah Bernhardts (sp?) are going to be stunning this year.

Thanks! Yours is beautiful.
I have an established one (that I can't remember the name of Blush) at the other end that's a deep crimson. They're both similar heights at the moment.

12000 daisies! Never seen so many, I've not been well enough to mow for over a week and it looks very lovely really.
Must do before Friday as we're getting some rain

Millions of daisies here too. In fact I made a daisy chain yesterday which I haven't done since children were little.

No blooms yet, but my peony bush is laden, laden I tell you, with buds. She's ready to pop.

Mine too! I think it’s going to be a good peony year

LaBelleSauvage123 · 26/05/2026 22:51

Poppies! Not the most subtle of blooms but I love them, especially against the lime green of euphorbia.

Roses looking good but this caught my eye yesterday - it’s a Pale Yellow Eyed Grass - had to look it up as it was inherited with the garden - but looking particularly good this year!
