Welcome 🤗. Pull up a chair, or an upturned bucket, grab a handle-less mug of whatever takes your fancy, ignore the cobwebs in the corner, there are some seed catalogues on the potting bench for you to entertain yourself until someone else pops in to chat about whatever has taken their interest on the telly or radio in all matters gardening 🌻🐞🌿🐝🍄🐌

It got to about ten o'clock last night and I wondered why it hadn't been on. I'm hoping my machine recorded it.

Next week will be Carol judging the presenters' beds.

Hmm, that sounds a bit Tracey Emin 😄

Didn't Monty announce he was leaving aaages ago? Is it finally happening!

I like Adam but he's stepped back for mental health or family reasons before now, so the Beeb might worry about making him the figurehead. I don't think Frances will get the gig since she doesn't have her own garden.
I think that they will go for somebody whose main attribute is being a journalist / presenter / celebrity, rather than being a gardener.

Frances has her own garden but it's very small.

Oh sigh. GW seems to be some sort of "allotment special". I'm afraid I cannot get excited about groups of people comparing their courgettes.

AntiqueVases · 18/09/2026 20:20

Not to mention "Allotment/Community Garden bingo". Take a drink for each mention of the following:

  • good for mental health
  • people of all ages etc meeting and learning from one another
  • an oasis here in the busy urban environment
  • giving back to the community

Oh Christ, it's actually a CABBAGE special.

On a Friday night, 25 years ago, I'd be applying glittery eyeshadow and heading out on the town about now.

Bleurgh. No "Jobs for the Weekend" of course as Monty wasn't there.

But no look forward to next week?! So it's entirely a mystery whether we're getting a spring bulb section or not!

No offence to Frances, who I think is perfectly lovely.

I loved the allotment special. It spurred me on to put my name on the waiting list for the ones near my house. I have absolutely no spare time in my day so not sure what I’m thinking.
I’ve been told waiting lists are generally years rather than months. Not sure what I’d do if they called me up and offered me a plot!
