Crocosmia “lucifer” not flowering this year

I have quite a lot of this in my garden, that I’ve never paid much attention to. This year, however, it doesn’t seem to be flowering. Google tells me it might be due to not enough water, and we have had a dry year. But then I thought, if that’s the reason, other people in the UK must be experiencing this too. Is anybody’s else’s crocosmia lucifer not flowering , or is it too early to see buds forming?

Virtually nothing in my garden is flowering or flowering for long and that includes both types of crocosmia I have (though I'm not sure if it might be a little early yet). It's just basically not rained for weeks and weeks.

DisapprovingSpaniel · 29/06/2025 06:52

It’s still too early for crocosmia.

zaxxon · 29/06/2025 06:59

My crocosmia has been absolutely pathetic this year. There's two flower stems and the rest is just foliage. It's all flopping over, too, smothering the other plants.

I'm this close to ripping it all out, because it's never been great, although as OP said, this year is particularly bad. Is there any way to get it to flower?

DustyTangerine · 29/06/2025 07:13

Mine hasn’t flowered I’m assuming too early

lightningstrikes · 29/06/2025 07:17

Mine is the same, floppy and no flowers. I gave it a deep water with the hosepipe yesterday. My new Zealand flax has had an amazing year though, loads of flowers! Lavender doing very well too. It's the dry tolerant plants for the win this year!

@DisapprovingSpaniel

what they said - it's too early.

LynetteScavo · 29/06/2025 16:06

Maybe I’ll give it a dousing with the hosepipe and see what happens!

I think it is too early.
Looking back at pictures, mine was in full flower late July 24, and no sign of it on late June 23 pictures.
BUT, mine is currently glorious.
So no idea what it going on with it.

(East Anglia, very dry)

Mine went from nothing to buds to flowers in the last few days! So it'll probably flower soon

sciaticafanatica · 29/06/2025 16:21

Mine is loving the humidity

My crocosmia is just coming into flower. Yarrow, lavender and pink campion also doing well.

My crocosmia has been flowering for about a week. But I set up an irrigation system in the spring, I think it helps as everything in the garden is lush.

InvitingMattress · 01/07/2025 08:50

My parents gave me some about a fortnight ago, and it’s just started to bloom. The wild kind won’t get going for a while yet.

LynetteScavo · 28/07/2025 14:45

Just an update - after LOTs of watering and some rain, it’s finally in full bloom!

Mine was flowering the last week and a half in June and it's been all over now for well over a week!

B0D · 29/07/2025 08:24

I have some stray bits flowering, but the big bunch in a confined space are very crowded . I think they might need thinning out after autumn?

Myblueclematis · 29/07/2025 08:38

Mine has flowered ok, it's not that big in size of clump but I still have a few flowers still going on it. I have another crocosmia that is much smaller and orange that has just started flowering.
