I have a pretty big pot that I wanna fill tomorrow.

I want something super low maintenance. Something that's gonna live for years to come without me accidentally killing it.

I don't care if it's evergreen or not.

Google tells me a hosta. Any other suggestions?

I don't want something that needs to be pruned. I don't know what I'm doing. I'm lazy. And I'm heavy handed.

Something I can just leave and water sporadically.

Something that isn't needy. Unlike my children any husband.

Throw some ideas at me. Please. The prettier the better.

I have a big hosta in a pot and I love it, extremely low maintenance and I get excited every year seeing the shoots come up

I have a big fern in a big pot , very easy going. Slug proof

CosyNavyLeader · 22/06/2025 09:33

Yes, slug proof. That's another thing I need. Do slugs like hostas?

Do slugs like hostas? Hahaha. Bitter laugh. They eat them for breakfast. Literally.

Succulents

Coffeeandcrochet · 22/06/2025 11:01

Will it be in sun or shade?

If it's a big enough pot I'd suggest a slow growing shrub like a pieris (needs ericaceous compost), daphne or sarcococcus. If it will be in sunshine, perhaps rosemary.

JG24 · 22/06/2025 16:26

Slugs love hostas! My big one is in a pot a bit away from the rest of plants/grass so not sure if that's why it doesn't get eaten?

Wineandzoflora · 22/06/2025 16:28

Big pot of lavender or rosemary ?
not hostas - slugs are crazy for them

What kind of fern do you have please? Are ferns evergreen or do they die off in winter?

Prayingforananswer · 22/06/2025 16:45

I have a large pot of hostas on my deck and the bloody slugs have still found it!

CosyNavyLeader · 22/06/2025 17:09

This is Male Fern - keeps its leaves in winter in a mild garden (London)

I forget what this is called - Wallachiana I think
it doesn’t look very happy there and possibly needs more light

How about a Daphne? Smells lovely, I think they're evergreen and very pretty flowers

JellyTotsAreYum · 22/06/2025 22:18

@B0D thanks. Think I might be getting some ferns...

B0D · 22/06/2025 22:21
