Container pots

I want to put a few more pots on the patio. The lasagna pots are past their best and I have a few things planted already like Sweetpeas, Hostas and a Chocolate Cosmos.

Just after a bit of inspiration. Don’t mind if it’s single or mixed planting in the pot. What are you putting in yours?

I have lots of lilies in pots, they go round the side of the house once they are over.
Some shrubs, a couple of acers, quite a few clematis, dianthus.
Annually I'll usually have snapdragons, dahlias, geraniums, lobelia, sweet peas, viola, begonias.

I planted a scabiosa in one of my pots - although I think it needs a bigger pot. I have a few empty pots that need holes drilling in that I need to fill up so will follow for inspiration.

Lilies, sweet peas, nasturtiums, California poppies and some mixed annuals.

I'm about to plant up some containers with a load of bedding plants - lobelia, verbena, geraniums, tagetes.

In my pots at the moment are a few trees, rose, huchera, peony, hostas, artemisia, dicentra and a gypsophilia. I’ve had mixed success with my pots, but these plants are happy at the moment. Watching with interest to get ideas from others!

I had to look up targeted. They are lovely Smile

I've got lots of pots planted up with succulents. It's like having lots of mini gravel gardens, as I top dress with fine gravel and put bits of slate or brick in the pot for the plants to grow around. I planted up the pots furthest from the house because I was getting tired of the constant watering, which was hardest for the distant pots. The ones nearest the house have mint, melissa, ornamental grasses rather than flowers.

I like lilies but can't have them because we have cats. Usually I go for pelargoniums.

OminousFlute · 03/05/2025 14:08

Thunbergia for height and nicotiana for the smell. Nemesia also, particularly the vanilla.

Koulibiak · 03/05/2025 15:11

Cannas, dahlias, colocasias, zinnias, tradescantia, ferns, begonia grandis, Brugmansia, sweet peas, echinaceas, pelargoniums, Eucomis, Californian poppies, Miscanthus, creeping Jenny, petunias, lobelias, African marigolds, acers, hakonechloa macra, fuchsia. Not all in the same pot ☺️ although I like to have lots of different plants together for varying height, foliage and texture. Each big pot is like a mini garden.

Love these ideas

Sounds amazing! I'm sure of us would love to see some pictures as inspiration if you wouldn't mind sharing. I have just had DH drill holes into all my remaining pots.

Forgot that I ha e some small pelargoniums on the windowsill. In my defence the windowsill is so congested that its easy to forget what’s growing there.

Going to catch up on the rest of the threads now.

Thank you for all of the ideas so far Smile

And those links are excellent @Koulibiak. Thank you for going to the trouble of posting them Flowers

@BunnyRuddington thank you! I have them saved as bookmarks to get me through the winter months 😁 so it was no trouble at all.

Your thread prompted me to take photos of my pots, so I can chart progress and see what’s worked and what didn’t. Win win

That’s a good idea. Will need to start a new photo album so that I can keep track of them. Was thinking of a notebook but I’m much better with visual things Smile
